WideOrbit's Traffic team is looking for a talented Technical Writer to join us. In this role, you'll create release notes, training materials, user guides, and other content that will directly impact our clients' satisfaction with our products. You'll have the opportunity to learn and see the software through the eyes of our clients and provide them the tools to understand and master the product. You will partner closely with developers, product managers, and testers to gather your information. You will also partner with training, implementation, and support teams to improve the content ecosystem.
We are constantly upgrading our many product lines, and the ideal candidate will have a passion to produce clear and useful end-user content, the drive to master the many challenges of a complex business-to-business platform, the insight to turn roadblocks into stepping stones, the persistence to dig in when the going gets tough, and the sense of humor to keep everything a little bit fun.
Here is what you'll be doing:
  • Research, author, and publish outstanding user-facing content (help documentation, in-depth help topics, release notes, user guides, training videos) as well as developer-facing content (API documentation, technical notes) under tight deadlines and short product cycles.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Development, and Technical Support, as well as with writers from other teams to develop content that helps our clients succeed with WideOrbit software.
  • Identify areas to be improved, and advocate for the user during the design and development phases for new features.
  • Deliver professional, accurate, and most importantly, useful content when it's needed most by our users.
  • Manage documentation projects end-to-end including monitoring release cycles and identifying features requiring new or updated end-user documentation, creating the documentation with assistance from subject matter experts, and publishing the documentation.
  • Learn and understand the products, phases of software development, including agile and waterfall methodologies.
  • Partner with training, implementation, and support teams to improve the content ecosystem.
  • Read, write, and troubleshoot XML and HTML-based content.
Here is what we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in writing, communication, or computer science or a related field is highly desirable. However, candidates with equivalent on-the-job experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working with Traffic, Media Sales, CRM, or Advertising software and/or knowledge of broadcast ratings data and advertising rate cards is highly desirable
  • 2+ years of experience translating technical and development specifications into easy-to-read content for users
  • Experience reading, writing, and troubleshooting XML and HTML-based content
  • Experience with online help production, information architecture, and single-sourcing concepts
  • Ability to proactively take the initiative to research solutions online and come up with creative solutions to content problems
  • Confident, professional, and effective communicator (both verbally and in written form) that can work with all levels and departments in an organization in a clear, concise, and articulate way
  • Proven ability of creating solutions to complex documentation problems, driving projects to completion, and overcoming the inevitable unexpected project obstacles
  • Strong track record of excellent time management and prioritization in an environment where large volumes of content are produced across multiple subject areas
  • Ability to own complex documentation projects with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines with multiple deliverables
  • Experience working with bug databases and code repository systems (such as SVN or Visual Studio)
  • Proven ability to succeed in a fast paced and somewhat ambiguous environment
This position will be based in our Vancouver, WA office. Seattle, San Francisco and remotes locations will be considered for the right candidate.
