This position represents an opportunity to join a fast-paced startup company that is developing both proprietary and open source Big Data products.

MapR Data Technologies is looking for a talented, motivated technical writer to join the Engineering team in the Hyderabad office and contribute to its expanding and complex suite of converged data platform components. The optimal candidate will be hands-on, love learning about new technology, and extremely collaborative. They will be part of a larger technical documentation.

The writer will work closely with their colleagues in engineering as well as work with Technical Support, Education Services, and technical teams in the field.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Extensive experience writing for data administrators
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux commands and scripting
  • Excellent command of US English
  • Excellent ability to design usable content
  • Experience using industry-standard authoring and publishing tools such as Oxygen, XMetaL, FrameMaker, and Madcap Flare
  • In-depth understanding of the content development process from end to end (planning, authoring, review, publishing, and maintenance)
  • Experience with documentation standards (especially DITA XML)
  • Experience publishing/distributing content via the Web
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience documenting enterprise software products and/or open source solutions
  • BA/BS in Technical Writing, Writing, Communications, English, Computer Science, or another related degree

Preferred:
  • Experience writing about MPP systems, including relational databases and Hadoop software
  • Ability to write API documentation
  • Data security knowledge
  • Basic ability to create illustrations
  • Working knowledge of SQL commands and queries
  • Familiarity with agile development processes and tools
  • Ability to read and understand Java code
