Couchbase documentation delivers the essential information to developers and system administrators and enables them to use the product effectively.
In light of this, we are looking for a Senior Technical Writer with a strong technical background and excellent communication skills.

As a Sr. Technical Writer for one of our core services, you will work closely with a global team to create and/or maintain content that enables our users to do amazing things with Couchbase.
You will work with a global team of technical writers, product managers, developers, quality engineers, developer advocates, technical support, and marketing to create content that not only provides useful information but also enhances the overall user experience.

Responsibilities
    • From planning to delivery, you will work with stakeholders to plan and document new features/APIs. You will be responsible to create appropriate content which could be concepts and architecture guides, developer guides, code samples, language references, API references, and other online material.
    • Work with stakeholders to identify and prioritize areas of improvements in the documentation.
    • Deliver quality content in a fast-paced environment.
    • Install and play with our products, interact with a global team of experienced product managers, engineering, support, and field teams, and also read technical specifications. Then use this experience and information to update/create detailed documentation.
    • Create or modify samples to demonstrate best practices when working with Couchbase.
    • Edit, clarify and proofread documents written by other staff and work with non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills and contributions to documentation.
    • Learn and contribute to the production process when needed.
    • Work independently with minimal supervision.


Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge and experience with at least one relational/NoSQL database
    • Hands on experience with SQL
    • Working knowledge and experience operating in a Linux environment using the command line.
    • Experience with open source projects, Git, and GitHub is preferred.
    • Experience with text based authoring tools such as Asciidoc and Markdown is preferred. Knowledge of DITA or XML based authoring is a plus but not required.
    • Experience with multimedia with a proven ability to turn complex concepts into an easy to understand multimedia format such as infographics or short videos is a plus


Minimum Requirements
    • A minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience on enterprise infrastructure software technologies, preferably with a database or data management software development focus.
    • Proven track record of driving and delivering quality documentation for key product features.
    • Able to read/write/execute sample code written in one or more of the following programming languages: Go, Java, Python, PHP.
    • Detail-oriented, problem-solver, self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with flexibility and good follow-through skills.
    • Must have a collaborative style and be an outstanding team player, willing to work in a busy office and with remote Couchbase employees.
