We're looking for an experienced HR Generalist to own and improve HR services, policies, and programs plus advise company managers and employees on a range of Human Resources matters including employee relations, performance management, comp and benefits, recruiting, career/professional development and HR data administration and analytics. You will be part of a People team that will revolutionize how Couchbase attracts, develops, and retains top talent.

  • Employee Relations: This is the vast majority of the role... Assist in providing day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to managers and staff regarding employee relation issues, performance, interpretation of employment laws, and policies and procedures. Advise on leaves of absences, immigration matters, conduct exit interviews and oversee execution of HR tasks.
  • Team development and employee experience: Provide project and program management support on a variety of HR initiatives such as performance management, employee engagement and learning and development activities.
  • Continuous improvement: Sees opportunities to save time and/or effort and is proactive about making HR a better experience
  • Jumps in to help the HR team to supplement support on a variety of tasks and initiatives as needed - examples might include:
    • HR Operations: Management of all employee data in HRIS system, maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files including processing employee data changes and maintaining company charts.
    • Employee Onboarding: Ensure successful onboarding of new employees including management of new hire paperwork and facilitation of new hire orientation.
    • HR Metrics: Assist in the tracking and analyzing of staffing, retention, turnover, exit interview data and other information necessary to provide insights that will inform appropriate talent decisions.
    • Immigration: Serve as a central point of contact for all immigration matters and handles day-to-day U.S. immigration related matters. Partners with managers, employees, HR team and outside legal counsel to coordinate initiation, posting, and signing of all immigration related applications.
    • Benefits: Partner with our Total Rewards leader to manage the US and Canada employee benefit programs. Assist with the open enrollment process, and manage 401k, health benefit, life and disability insurance, as well as voluntary programs.
    • Compliance: Partner with our Total Rewards leader on maintaining compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

  • 7+ years of broad HR knowledge in a professional environment with at least 3 years in a tech startup environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Strong customer service and teamwork orientation
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Flexible, collaborative, and loves solving problems and serving employees
  • Strong data orientation with ability to manage, analyze and synthesize large amounts of complex employee information
  • Ability to maintain organized filing systems, various activity reports and tracking logs, to assure effective follow-up
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental HR practices including employment law, compensation, hiring, performance management, coaching and employee relations
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively with deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • PHR required
