We're looking for a creative, passionate, and scrappy Communications Manager to join our team! Reporting directly to the CMO, you will help drive our communications strategy to the press (PR), the industry analysts (AR), and our social channels. We have a big appetite to be a leader and are looking for that unique person who can help us achieve these goals-drive interesting points of view, capitalize on evolving trends, get us an unfair share of mindshare! Market Dynamics
The market is evolving and we are witnessing the age of instrumentation where everything has, or will have, a sensor. In the software world, we are seeing the shift to containers (Kubernetes) and microservices. This means that everything inside and outside the company is emitting a relentless stream of metrics and events or time series data. As a result, the underlying platforms need to evolve to support these new workloads-more data points, more data sources, more monitoring, more controls. What we're witnessing is a paradigmatic shift in how we approach our data infrastructure and how we approach instrumenting, observing, learning, and automating systems.

The Communications Challenge
The market is changing, and we want to capitalize on these trends since our technology is a perfect fit. But we need more people to know about the implications of these trends, and that we have an awesome solution that is being used today by some great companies like Tesla, Siemens, IBM, PayPal, just to name a few.

The Ideal Candidate
You are looking for the challenge of how to create compelling and impactful thought leadership content and stories that elevate the visibility of our technology and technology like it. Think of what Box and Dropbox did when they created the category "File Sharing" and now we all know what that means. Or what Hortonworks and Cloudera did when they promoted the "Data Lake" concept.

Since we are a technology play in the B2B space, you should have demonstrated experience in the B2B software world (database, middleware, open source, etc). You need to be energetic and scrappy (you get things done, embrace guerilla marketing, thinking outside the box, etc.) since you will never have enough budget. Work on hijacking news stories, associating us with bigger trends, brands and stories, all while keeping your eye on the goal of building awareness. Naturally being in communications, you need to be a master of the written and spoken word. You should love telling stories, writing contributed content, and producing compelling points of view on broad industry topics. You will not work alone, you will collaborate with agencies, analyst firms, social media providers-and will need to inspire and drive these teams to deliver exceptional results.

Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the CMO, you will drive the communications strategy and execution. You will work on the execution around how we get our "unfair" share of coverage and mindshare in the market. This should include a plan of thought leadership articles, press releases, executive bylines, AR influencer plans, joint partner engagement and the like. As part of this endeavor, you will need to look at PR agencies and AR firms that align with these goals and can help achieve these results even faster. Naturally, you will need to do some of the "boring" stuff as well:
  • Produce press releases, articles, pitches, Q&As, and other quality communications materials as needed
  • Project management of external agencies - PR/AR and Social


Your Background, Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 4 years related experience. Bachelor's degree in mass communications, journalism, public relations or equivalent experience
  • Prior PR agency experience (or equivalent) in promoting software products that have a strong developer/technical audience
  • Proven ability and knowledge of technical terminology in the B2B software arena
  • Prior experience in creating and implementing a PR and AR plan that had proven results
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Solid understanding of key marketing disciplines including digital marketing, public relations, web, social media, etc.
