About us

At Lyft we care deeply about delivering the best transportation experience: this means the best experience for the passenger and the best experience for the driver.

We believe this quality of service can only be achieved with a deep understanding of our world, our cities, our streets… how they evolve, how they breathe. A strong awareness of our environment will allow us to operate respectfully in our neighborhoods. Simply put: to be considerate of our communities.

Naturally, we are also embracing the powerful positive impact autonomous transportation will bring to our everyday lives and it is our ambition to become a leader in the development and operation of such vehicles. Thanks to our network, with hundreds of millions of rides every year, we have the means to make autonomy and Artificial Intelligence a safe reality.

By joining the Autonomous Tech group, you will have the opportunity as a founding team member to develop and deploy tomorrow’s hardware & software solutions enabling the revolution of transportation and information.

At Lyft, community is what we are and it's what we do. It's what makes us different. To create the best ride for all, we start in our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization where all team members are recognized for what they bring.

Lyft's self-driving (autonomous) vehicle team is ensuring that Lyft continues to fulfill its mission of providing people with the world's best transportation. We are passionate about changing the world for the better and focused on paving the way for Lyft to scale self-driving technology on our network.

This Operations Lead will be responsible for launching our self-driving operations on the ground, reporting to the Senior Director of Self-Driving Operations. You will work with our self-driving team to build, test, and iterate on fleet management capabilities. You will stand up operations to support a self-driving fleet, with a focus on fleet operations, creating new processes through testing and learning, and sourcing and managing local vendors and partners.

You should be excited about technology and innovation, comfortable with testing new business models and ideas, and eager to roll up your sleeves to get things done. You are a creative, analytical, entrepreneurial operator who thrives on tackling new challenges every day: one day you could be designing the specific workflow to clean cars and another you could be meeting with partners to understand how we can work together to improve transportation in their city. You will need to be superb at working cross-functionally and with external partners to deliver on our autonomous fleet strategy. If you're sharp, a great communicator, fearless under uncertainty, willing to help out wherever needed, and scrappy when it comes to getting things done, then we can't wait to talk to you.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and constantly refine operational self-driving business processes
  • Synthesize market feedback and on-the-ground research to be shared with HQ teams and partners
  • Obsess over data and develop analyses to identify operational improvement opportunities and creative solutions
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with vendors including resolving any potential issues that arise quickly and effectively
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, operations, local teams and external partners to deliver on our self-driving strategy
  • Establish and manage key success metrics, including costs; and create proposals to deliver step change results
  • Drive the development of our self-driving go-to-market playbook
Experience & Skills:
  • Operational experience, preferably in a fast-growth startup environment (bonus points for fleet management experience and/or data analysis/modeling experience)
  • Track record in approaching complex, undefined business problems in structured, strategic, and quantitative way
  • Ability and eagerness to work cross-functionally with various teams
  • Able to communicate effectively and build relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • "Get it done" mentality and ability to execute
  • A deep connection to Lyft's mission and core values
  • Passion for mobility services and related technology
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
