Infrastructure Engineer
About the position:
Volterra is seeking a Principal Infrastructure Engineer with experience in the area of design & deployment of global network infrastructures. The individual will be part of Volterra's Engineering team in growing Volterra's Edge Services platform by building a world class global network.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other team members and groups to identify and develop scalable network designs, solutions, and policy recommendations.
- Ensure continued operation of Volterra's global backbone infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of Internet protocols and applications.
- Support Volterra's internal groups by identifying their network-impacting requirements and working with Volterra's Engineering team.
- Support and lead implementation of Volterra's growing network infrastructure.
- Participate in the rotating "on call" schedule with other members of the SRE team.
- Provide third-tier support and solve complex networking issues.
- Knowledge and experience in dealing with other Network Operators for Peering, Transit and other bilateral contract agreements.
- Contract experience with network providers and vendors.
- Network vendor evaluations & recommendations.
Minimum qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches.
- Experience with networking technologies.
- Experience with a service provider or enterprise-level network in engineering or design roles.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems administration including solid scripting skills in Shell, Perl, Python, Go.
- Experience in Network Operator Groups and Forums.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, QUIC, GRE, IPSec, POS, PPP, VRRP, HSRP, and SNMP protocols.
- Exceptional network routing protocol troubleshooting skills in BGP, OSPF, ISIS, and MPLS.
- Effective written and oral communications skills, with the ability to influence others.
