On June 10th, Lyft ignited the Intergalactic Art Car Festival in Downtown Las Vegas, with the ultimate goal of raising money to support the local art community and arts programs in schools in Nevada.
In its first year, the festival raised more than $20,000 that will be distributed to local arts programs through the First Friday Foundation. Lyft’s goal was not only to raise awareness around this social issue, but to unite mothers, daughters, grandparents, brothers, fathers, etc. for one night of celebrating amongst the galaxy’s greatest art cars.
This festival’s collection of art cars included vehicles stretching more than 25 feet long and over 50 feet high, and taking the forms of monsters, swans, staplers, cartoon characters and aliens. Some of the cars rolled down the Las Vegas Strip past thousands of cheering people before circling up in Downtown Las Vegas for a festival that lasted long into the night with even more art cars, fire dancers, DJs, food trucks and strolling characters.
Lyft covered the cost for 10,000 tickets to make the family-friendly festival accessible to everyone. Guests came dressed in interplanetary costumes, taking photos in the cars, talking to the artists who created them and interacting with the art pieces.
All proceeds from drinks, food, merchandise and donations benefited local arts programs through the First Friday Foundation. Those who purchased a “Philanthropist” pass enjoyed an open bar at Atomic Liquors, along with Lyft credit to request a designated driver on demand.
